Abstract
Background: Improved cryopreservation of fat would significantly enhance reconstruction with fat grafts by providing for multiple treatments without additional harvesting. Currently, cryopreservation is limited by the toxicity of standard agents such as DMSO. In our study of adipocyte resuscitation using a tri-block copolymer (P188) we have been able to demonstrate a significant improvement in graft preservation. We hypothesized that a similar strategy may be utilized to protect cryopreserved fat as well.
