Abstract
We have investigated a new 1,2-type aromatic dibromide monomer for preparing a modified π -conjugated poly(p-phenylenevinylene). A novel π -conjugated poly(p-phenylenevinylene) was prepared by dehalogenation polycondensation of a dibromoaromatic compound with a squaric unit as a monomer with zerovalent nickel [Ni(0)] complex. The monomer and the polymer were characterized by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, Elemental Anaylsis, TGA, DSC, GPC and UV-Visible. The resultant polymer had good solubility to polar aprotic, solvents, e.g. DMF, DMAc, DMSO and NMP and solvatochromism in DMAc.
