Abstract

To overcome the problems of running a subtense traverse along a busy street, or over cultivated farmlands etc., the high tripod shown in the photograph was devised. The bottom section of each leg of a wooden telescopic tripod was replaced by a 10-ft-long aluminium pipe, into which was driven a wooden joining piece suitably shaped to fit into the top section of the tripod leg; then the conversion of the standard tripod into the high one takes only a few minutes.
