Abstract

In this note the geostrophic drag coefficient C D and the direction of the surface shear stress α for rough, smooth and intermediate smooth-to-rough turbulent flow are presented. The results are valid for neutrally stable atmospheric boundary layer flow conditions and are based on results obtained by Harris and Deaves [2] using similarity theory. Their results for rough turbulent flow have been extended to smooth turbulent flow and intermediate smooth-to-rough turbulent flow. For rough, smooth and intermediate smooth-to-rough turbulent flows, C D and α versus the Rossby number Ro = G/fz 0 , C D and α versus the Reynolds number Re = G 2/fv , and C D and α versus Re and Ro are presented, respectively.
