Abstract

Longuet‐Higgins' (1963) theory for the generation of capillaries by a steep gravity wave is generalized to the case of wind. Wind growth enhances the steepness of the crest‐generated capillaries, and their maximum steepness now occurs further away from the crest. Implications to remote sensing are discussed.
