A Note on the $$\exp (-\varphi (z))$$ Expansion Method

Abstract

In this paper, we prove the equivalence between the $$\exp (-\varphi (z))$$ expansion method and the tanh method. The two methods give the same exact traveling wave solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations. We use the ill-posed Boussinesq equation as an example to demonstrate this fact.
