Abstract

The influence of vorticity on the deformation and break-up of polymeric drops is investigated. We find that vorticity does not significantly alter steady drop deformation but it can dramatically effect drop break-up. This study extends our previous results and demonstrates that the conclusions drawn earlier are not limited to planar extensional flows. These experiments also provide evidence that drop fluid elasticity inhibits deformation.
