Abstract

The diffusion cross section and the mean scattering cross section have been calculated for slow electron scattering by a polar molecule considering the effect of short range attractive and repulsive potentials. The effect of an attractive short range potential is to reduce Altshuler's cross section (1957), while the repulsive short range potential increases Altshuler's cross section. It is observed that a Coulomb one-centred short range potential leads to a very small change in the cross section calculated by the Born approximation.
