Abstract
Group adaptation data reported for stutterers and for nonstutterers in three studies were reanalyzed using a proportional adaptation measure. In none of the studies did the stutterers adapt proportionally to a greater degree than the nonstutterers. This suggests that the greater slope observed for stutterers' than for nonstutterers' adaptation curves in these studies was primarily a function of the difference between groups in frequency of disfluency.
