Abstract

In 1962, Consumers Union (CU) made a grant to Indiana University to finance a study of life insurance from the buyer's point of view, and I was asked to handle the project. The completed study was submitted to CU in 1963 and was to e used as the basis of a series of articles in Consumer Reports. After a number of unavoidable delays, a series of articles was published: by CU in 1967.1 Although the series utilized certain aspects of my study, I requested CU to include a disclaimer. It was inserted in the first article of the series (p. 14), and it was worded by CU as follows:
