Abstract

Previously the author described that when the soft mode system consists of a non-degenerate mode alone, there should always occur only one ferroic space group in the transition sequence. Let Q and R denote the coordinates of this soft mode and some other mode, respectively. Certain physicists suspect that the author overlooked the possibility that, on continuous cooling, a lower ferroic symmetry may additionally arise from the condensation of R induced by the increase of | Q s | through the coupling Q 2 R 2 in the free energy function. In the present paper the author explains his committing no such fault and validity of the previous description from the viewpoint of a heterophone transition sequence.
