Abstract

Abstract 4-Chloro-αα-dimethylphenethylaminopropan-2-one blocked uptake of [3H]noradrenaline in the heart, had no effect on the endogenous levels of catecholamines or 5-hydroxytryptamine in the heart, brain or adrenals and decreased the [3H]noradrenaline-depleting activity of metaraminol, but not reserpine, in rodents. The compound appears to act by interfering with the active transport of noradrenaline through the nerve cell membrane.
