A note on semidihedral 2-class field towers and $${{\mathbb {Z}}_{2}}$$ Z 2 -extensions

Abstract

We prove that the Galois group of the maximal unramified pro-2-extension over the $${\mathbb {Z}}_2$$ -extension of a real quadratic field is never isomorphic to a semidihedral group.
