Abstract

Thermal history models demonstrate how small terrestrial planets can potentially cool slower than larger ones due to variations in the forces that resist tectonic plate motion and associated planetary cooling. Given that interior cooling affects surface environment, through volcanic/geologic activity, this indicates that small planets should not be down-weighted in the search for life beyond Earth and that planets of the same absolute age as the Earth can be at different evolution times.
