Foreign Language AnnalsVolume 4, Issue 2 p. 171-172 A Note on Evaluation of Student Proficiency in the Neglected Languages James N. Hardin Jr., James N. Hardin Jr. JAMES N. HARDIN, JR. (Ph. D., Univ. of North Carolina at Chapel Hill), was a part-time instructor of German at the University of North Carolina for six years before serving in the military from 1967–69. After basic officer training, he served as head of the Army Language School at the John F. Kennedy Center for Military Assistance, Fort Bragg, N.C. In this position he worked with text development for several languages, including Amharic, Farsi, Pushtu, and Nepali. At present he is Assistant Professor of German at the Univ. of South Carolina. His publications include “Der Versucher and Hermann Broch's Attitude toward Positivism,” German Quarterly, Jan. 1966; and “The Theme of Salvation in the Novels of Hermann Broch,” PMLA, March 1970Search for more papers by this author James N.
