Abstract
The method for obtaining a sample from a gamma distribution is a very difficult task, and as such has not been standardized. One of the many problems associated with this is the determination of the shape parameter. In this short note, a heuristic approximation is used to derive the value of gamma shape parameter for a general case (integer or real).
