Abstract

A procedure for estimating the distribution parameters of lognormal aerosols from cascade impactor data is suggested. By expressing the individual stage collection efficiency curves by power series in particle size, the corresponding percentage deposits of aerosol particles can be plotted as functions of geometric mean particle size with the geometric variances as parameters. From graphs indicating the dependence of geometric variance on geometric mean particle size for experimentally established percentage deposits on individual stages of cascade impactor, the aerosol size distribution parameters can be estimated. The properties of a single impactor stage the collection efficiency of which is approximated by lognormal distribution function are discussed.
