Abstract

ABSTRACTSixty-nine rams of three crossing-ram breeds were mated on 11 farms over 3 years to produce crossbred ewes for a large field trial. Scottish Blackface and Welsh Mountain ewes mated to Bluefaced Leicester rams had larger litters at weaning than those mated to Border Leicester and the Animal Breeding Research Organisation's Damline rams. The crossbred Bluefaced Leicester lambs were heavier than the other crossbred lambs at both birth and weaning.
