Abstract

The paper describes a method for obtaining the derivative of a certain desired order of a proper or improper rational function without working out any of its lower order derivatives. This method is then applied to compute the partial fraction expansion coefficients of a rational function with high order poles. The outlined procedure is suitable both for hand and computer calculation.
