Abstract

Molecular adsorption—the process in which small molecules adhere to a surface—typically considers homogeneous, atomistically continuous, flat geometries. In this issue of Matter, Reimer and colleagues tackle a much more complex situation of volatile organic compounds and carbon dioxide on hierarchical nanoporous carbon with multiscale pores, resolving and characterizing phase-dependent site-specific dynamics via nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).
