Abstract

The finding of a mass on excretory urogram entails a diagnostic dilemma. Four major possibilities are presented (listed here in decreasing order of importance):• Renal neoplasm, such as hypernephroma• Renal cysts present as multilocular structure or as a localized appearance of atypical polycystic kidneys, or presenting as a simple single serous cyst.• Nasal detrious, deriving from either a technician or radiologist suffering acute nasopharyngitis who sneezed on the film as it was being developed or put on the viewing panel. Sometimes these are produced by placing the fifth finger up the nares (Rosannadanna, 1978).• Renunculus, cortical nodule, or normally lumpy renal cortex.
