Abstract

Fetal phonocardiography (fPCG) is a passive diagnostic method for monitoring of fetal well-being. In contrast with other fetal heart rate (FHR) monitoring methods, fPCG promises an advantage of long-term and low-cost monitoring. Due to this fact, it is even more important to obtain perfectly clear signal without unwanted noise. Low energy of fetal heart sounds in combination with higher energy of mother heart sounds, acoustic noises produced by fetal movements, uterine contractions and other ambient noises makes fPCG extraction more challenging. This paper presents a technique for noise suppression of fPCG based on artificial intelligence method, namely adaptive neuro-fuzzy interference system.
