Abstract

Two main factors which cause errors of data transmission in the industrial power line communication (PLC) system are impulsive noise and colored background noise produced by the drive systems, such as switch power supply and motors. In the PLC system, the using OFDM modulated information is transmitted on selective frequencies. The colored noise causes different SNR on each frequency; therefore the channel coding algorithms designed for AWGN channels might not be suitable for the power line channel. In this paper, we focus on dealing with the noises on the multicarrier channel of the PLC system. The influences of the impulsive noise and colored background noise upon the power line communication will be first discussed. Based on this discussion, a special channel coding technique for the data transmission on the power line channel will be proposed. Finally, the performance of the proposed channel coding technique will be compared with other coding algorithms
