Abstract
A cooling device in a heavy water moderated reactor is described for application in neutron activation analysis. Samples are irradiated in aluminum cans which are cooled during irradiation with low-temperature nitrogen gas. This gives a temperature down to about −30°C in the frozen aqueous samples. The arrangement is applicable in the analysis of elements in trace quantities in aqueous, biological or pharmaceutical samples.
