Abstract

To resist the cavitation erosion occurring in the hydrodynamic system, a NiCrAlTi nanocrystalline coating was prepared by the magnetron sputtering and post-annealing treatment. The coating was composed of the tough nano-grained matrix, a large amount of soft B19′-NiTi, a few η-Ni3Ti precipitates, as well as abundant dispersed nano-twins. It showed outstanding cavitation-resistant properties compared to almost all anti-cavitation-erosion materials. Its superior cavitation-resistant property could be attributed to the tough nano-grained matrix and the soft nano-precipitates B19′. The former absorbed the cavitation energy through the high hardness and the enhanced work-hardening ability. The latter rebounded the cavitation energy through the elastic deformation and rotation behaviors.
