Abstract

A new xanthone, 2,6-dihydroxy-3-methyl-9-oxoxanthene-8-carboxylic acid methyl ester (1) and three known compounds were isolated from the marine fungus Phomopsis sp. (No. SK7RN3G1). Their structures were determined by spectroscopic methods, mainly 1D and 2D NMR. Primary bioassays showed that 1 exhibited cytotoxicity against HEp-2 and HepG2 cells with IC50 values of 8 and 9 μg/mL, respectively.
