Abstract
A non-isolated dc-dc buck-boost converter with wide range of voltage gain is proposed in this paper. The proposed converter uses an active clamp circuit incorporated in a simple circuit of classical buck-boost converter. The proposed structure is capable to achieve extreme high step-up voltage gain even with a duty ratio within acceptable range for practical applications. However, the proposed converter can also operate as conventional buck-boost converter without activating the clamp circuit for step-down operation and step-up operation with moderate voltage gain, thereby omitting both switching and conduction losses of the clamp circuit. Performance of the proposed converter has been verified through computer simulation with MATLAB Simulink for nominal 24 V input voltage, 6 V–400 V output voltage, 500 W output power and switching frequency of 40 kHz. The simulated results were found to be in close agreement to the predicted behavior of the proposed converter.
