Abstract

AbstractThe effects of mold preheating temperature on the glass‐forming ability of Zr64.9Al7.9Ni10.7Cu16.5 and Zr47Cu37.5Ag7.5Al8 alloys are investigated using traditional copper mold casting. It is found that there exists an optimum mold temperature for glass‐forming alloy systems. For the two Zr‐based alloy systems studied the optimum mold temperature is 353 K. This is explained from the perspectives of heat transfer efficiency and the wettability between liquid alloy and copper mold.
