Abstract

Due to the new emerging 5G usage scenarios, such as massive machine type communications (mMTCs) and low latency communications, new waveform has become one of the 5G hot research topics to relax the synchronization requirement and reduce latency. In this paper, we design a new waveform scheme based on Slepian basis, which is optimal in terms of simultaneous energy concentration in both time and frequency domain. By taking advantage of the above concentration property and orthogonality of Slepian basis, the proposed scheme decreases the side lobes and keeps the compatibility with Multiple-In-Multiple-Out (MIMO) technology. With the help of the designed joint demodulation algorithm, simulation results show that the proposed scheme improves the BER performance and enhances the robustness to carrier frequency offset (CFO) at a higher complexity in constructing Slepian basis functions.
