Abstract

The plasma sheath has different levels of absorption, reflection and scattering to electromagnetic waves at different frequencies. It can lead to the radio contact interrupted between the aircraft and the outside world. By analyzing boundary conditions, this paper calculates the absorption attenuation and reflection of the electromagnetic wave. The change of the frequency is L-Ka band which the plasma sheath with 6cm thickness and the electron density is different. It is found that in some bands, the reflection of electromagnetic waves by a plasma sheath can explain the phenomenon of blackout better than the attenuation of electromagnetic wave by plasma sheath.
