Abstract

To celebrate the new millennium, my husband and I took our family to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. While much of the northeastern and midwestern U.S. dug out of a foot or more of snow, we spent New Year's Eve on a white-sand beach, dancing to Caribbean music, savoring the delights of roast suckling pig, and watching a fireworks display at midnight over a quiet cove. It was serene and exhilarating at the same time. But we all agreed that the best part of the vacation was exploring the natural beauty of this tropical paradise. Our grandsons had never been snorkeling in the Caribbean and once we arrived at the world-famous Trunk Bay on St. John, they were amazed at the crystal clear aquamarine water.
