Abstract

A new ursane-type triterpene, 3β-hydroxy-30-al-urs-12-en-28-oic acid (1), was isolated from the MeOH extract of the fruits of Vitex trifolia var. simplicifolia, along with seven known compounds: ursolic acid (2), taraxerol (3), taraxerone (4), α-amyrin (5), β-amyrin (6), lupeol (7), and betulinic acid (8). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analysis and chemical evidence. The cytotoxicity of compounds 1–8 were evaluated in vitro against four human tumor cell lines (HL-60, SGC-7901, PANC-1, and Eca-109). Compound 1 showed significant cytotoxic activity.
