Abstract

A double-focusing magnetic spectrometer was built for beta-gamma angular correlation studies. The magnetic field was obtained by double wedge shaped iron polefaces. The resulting electron trajectories are trochoidal in nature, and the central trajectory covers an angular range of approximately π√ 2 rad. Numerical calculations of the focusing properties indicate that the magnetic field gives first-order double-focusing that is very similar to the π√2 first-order double-focusing principle.
