Abstract
In this paper, we present a new tightly-coupled dipole array (TCDA). The feeding part utilizes a microstrip to coplanar stripline (CPS) balun. The compact planar balun provides wideband balanced output and performs as impedance transformer. The TCDA achieves a bandwidth of 2.8:1 (1.74-4.9 GHz) and can scan up to 70° in the E plane, 65° in the H plane, and 70° in the D plane, respectively. The proposed TCDA exhibits wideband, wide angle scanning, low cross-polarization, easy fabrication, and low cost.
