Abstract
Seismic profiling in the outer Bristol Channel has enabled the Sticklepath-Lustleigh fault zone of Devon to be traced offshore from Barnstaple Bay for at least 52 km to the NW. This fault, which passes 4·5 km E of Lundy Island forms the western margin of a large sedimentary basin. Five boreholes into this basin proved silts, mudstones, lignitic clays and lignites of middle to upper Oligocene age.
