Abstract

A mass transfer model has been developed to describe the physical absorption of gases in packed columns. The model is based on recycle systems, and yields a new technique for the determination of mass transfer coeffifients. Experimental data were collected, using a carbon dioxide-water system in a column packed with Raschig rings. It was found that the liquid film mass transfer coefficients calculated with the present technique agree well with the literature.
