Abstract

This paper reports a clinical trial of a new synthetic, absorbable suture material, polyglycolic acid, in 86 patients undergoing a variety of general surgical procedures. The sutures were used m all situations including intestinal anastomosis and biliary surgery. The suture performed well in all situations and confirmed previous reports of high tensile strength, easy handling and a minimum of complications associated with its use. Further trial by routine clinical use of this suture material is recommended.
