Abstract

A famous Mongolian physician of the 19th century, Zhanbra Dorje was the son of the 9th Regional King of Naiman County, Wuda League of Inner Mongolia, a Mongolian aristocrat. He was born in 1792, and died in 1855. He was imitated as a buddhist devoted at home and eventually became a monk and famous popularly. He wrote three books, among them, the Wu wu meng yao jian (Mirror of Correct Mongolian Materia Medica) was praised as one of the three classics on Mongolian pharmacy, and was treated as a parallel to the Ben cao gang mu (Compendium of Materia Medica).
