Abstract

A new species of stream frog in the genus Strongylopus is described from Kitumbeine Forest, situated on an isolated extinct volcano in northern Tanzania. This species is distinguished from S. merumontanus in Tanzania on the basis of a larger tympanum, differences in webbing, dorsal colour pattern, and a pulsed advertisement call. Also, S. fuelleborni is suggested to be a junior synonym of S. merumontanus.
