Abstract

Low-cost and high-efficiency SO2 removal technology is a great challenge in industrial exhaust gas purification. This paper innovatively proposes a “treating waste with waste” strategy for desulfurization using electric arc furnace dust (EAFD). The experimental results show that the EAFD slurry can achieve high-efficiency desulfurization and Zn leaching capacity. Specifically, the effects of temperature, oxygen concentration, solid–liquid ratio, gas flow rate, and SO2 concentration on the desulfurization efficiency of EAFD slurry were studied by a single-factor experiment method. Further studies show that the desulfurization performance is maintained when the EAFD slurry is acidic, the total mass of the EAFD slurry is reduced by approximately 60 % after deactivation, and the zinc (Zn) leaching rate reaches 50 %. In addition, the XRD, ICP, IC, SEM, XRF, and EDS characterization results of the main products show that the main active components of the EAFD desulfurization slurry are ZnO and ZnFe2O4. Finally, a possible mechanism of EAFD slurry desulfurization is proposed based on the experimental and characterization results.
