Abstract

Low-cost and high-efficiency detection of benzene series in water and atmosphere is necessary for environmental detection. In this contribution, inspired by the design of hybrid local charge transfer (HLCT) excited state molecules, a small organic molecule fluorescent probe TPMCN was reported for the selective detection of benzaldehyde and nitrobenzene. The response of TPMCN to benzaldehyde showed obvious fluorescence enhancement and redshift and the limit of detection (LOD) was calculated to be 2.17 μM. In addition, the fluorescence response of TPMCN to gaseous and liquid nitrobenzene showed obvious fluorescence quenching within 5 s, and the low-cost TPMCN test strips exhibited a low LOD of 0.16 ppm for nitrobenzene and have excellent recovery properties.
