Abstract

We investigate a set of three simple difference equations in three variables with one free parameter. As the parameter increases from zero, iteration of the equations results in a bifurcation pathway leading to chaos and a strange attractor. The attractor is of the twisted band variety, reminiscent of that of Rössler, though it differs from the latter by the fact that it arises from iteration of a set of pure difference equations, as opposed to a numerical algorithm applied to differential equations.
