Abstract

A new stonefly, Burmesoperla expansa gen. et sp. nov. is described based on a well-preserved male specimen in mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber. The new genus is another extinct member of Acroneuriinae, but is distinguished by the C-shaped hammer and spoon-shaped subgenital plate. The C-shaped hammer is found in Plecoptera for the first time, and the enlarged male subgenital plate has never been reported from Perlidae. Morphological characters of the new genus and species are described, illustrated, and compared with related taxa.
