Abstract

Takaku, G. 1997. A new species of the genus Macrocheles(Acari: Macrochelidae)associated with Eusilpha kurosawai M. Nishikawa, 1986(Coleoptera: Silphidae). J. Acarol. Soc. Jpn., 6(2): 117-122A new species of the genus Macrocheles, Macrocheles kurosai sp. nov., is described and illustrated on the basis of material collected from the abdomen under hind wings of a silphid beetle, Eusilpha kurosawai M. Nishikawa, on Amami-Oshima Island, southwest Japan. The new species is referable to the glaber species group of the genus Macrocheles. Macrocheles kurosai is very similar to M. nataliae Bregetova and Koroleva, 1960, but is distinguished by the ornamentation of the dorsal setae and sternal shield. I recognized M. nataliae and M. kurosai as the members of a new complex, nataliae complex, within the glaber group, and I defined the complex.Key words: Macrochelidae, Macrocheles kurosai, new species, nataliae complex, Silphidae, Eusilpha kurosawai.
