Abstract

A new species of Argulus is described from the garfish Atractosteus tropicus in the Tabasco wetlands, Mexico. Comparisons are made with what appear to be its closest relatives. This species is characterised by the presence of two notches in the inner margin of the large respiratory area, seven to nine supporting sclerites in the suckers, and the characteristic shape of the sexual modifications of the second, third and fourth legs in the male.
