Abstract

Abstract Hirtzia barrerana, a new species from Colombia, is described and illustrated. The Andean genus Hirtzia included only two species to date, H. benzingii and H. escobarii. The newly described species is distinguished from both of these taxa by the non-articulate leaves, the shape of the synsepal and the shape of the lip. We provide information about its habitat, ecology and distribution, as well as a brief discussion on closely related taxa.
