Abstract

Stoloniferous perennial; stolons c. 1 mm diam. Culms erect, 19 22 cm x 0.6 0.9 mm, trigonous, mid-green, glabrous, the base somewhat bulbous. Leaves basal; blade linear, 12 18 x 0.2 0.3 mm, gradually narrowed, acuminate, ? flat, glabrous, margins scabrid; sheath 2.5 4.3 cm long, pale brown, becoming somewhat fibrous with age. Involucral bracts 3 4, leaf-like; basal bract longest, 6.4 9.8 x 2 3 mm. Inflorescence capitate, greenish brown, comprising 1 terminal and 1 3 lateral spikes; terminal spike oblong-ovoid, 1.4 2 x 0.6 0.7 mm, rounded, lateral spikes ovoid to subglobose, smaller. Spikelets lanceolate-ovate, 3.5 4 x 1 1.3 mm, acute, pale olive green. Glumes 3 5 per spikelet, lanceolate, 2.6 3 x 0.5 0.9 mm, acute, shortly mucronate to recurved-mucronate, sides chartaceous, several-nerved, nerves prominent, pale brown, midrib green, wingless, smooth to sparsely scabrid. Stamens 3; anthers narrowly oblong, 0.9 1.2 mm long, cream, filaments 5 mm long. Stigma branches 2; style 3 mm long. Achenes (immature), oblong, biconvex, up to 1 mm long. Fig. 1.
