Abstract

ABSTRACT The taxonomy of the East Asian endemic subgenus Nialoe (s. lat.) Tanaka, 1958 (Coleoptera: Carabidae: Pterostichus) is still insufficient at both the specific and subgeneric levels, and the discovery of new species and revision of the subgeneric classification are ongoing. This study describes Pterostichus (Nialoe) hekosanensis sp. nov. from central Honshu, Japan. The new species is similar to P. daihizanus Ishida, 1968; P. ohbayashii Ishida, 1968; and P. ryoheii Morita, 2012, but can be readily distinguished from them by distinct characters. In addition, the subgenus Nialoe in the last version of the Palaearctic Catalogue, which is widely accepted by experts, is reviewed from a phylogenetic perspective and a revised list reflecting the phylogenetic relationships is presented. http://www.zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:CE4C1CE0-6A4A-437C-BDF1-D1273B5C663A
