Abstract
A new species of family Elcanidae (Orthoptera: Elcanoidea), Probaisselcana oculata sp. nov., is described from mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber with well-preserved body and wing venation. It characterizes prominent compound eyes, metatibia with three pairs of broad leaf-like dorsal spurs and a proximal unpaired small leaf-like dorsal spur, metabasitarsus without a row of stiff, setae-like spines ventrally, vein of CuPa and CuPaα in the same length, vein of MP with five simply curve branches reaching posterior margin, two dark spots on forewings. These body features and combination of wing-venation characteristics differ it from all other known species of Probaisselcana and species from Burmese amber. A key to genus Probaisselcana is provided.
