Abstract

An opportunity has been afforded us to study the extensive collection of mites of the family MACROCHELIDAE in the United States National Museum by Mr. C. F. W. Muesebeck, Division of Insect Identification, Bureau of Entomology and Plant Quarantine. Included among this material were specimens of the family LAELAPTIDAE, genus Androlaelaps Berlese (1903). The species has apparently not been described. The circumstances relative to the collection of the new Androlaelaps were somewhat unusual in that they were intercepted by New York agents of the Bureau of Entomology and Plant Quarantine in a lily bulb, Lilium sp., from Japan. A majority of the 14 previously described species of Androlaelaps have been taken from rodents or their nests.
